Brave adventures offer a mobile guided outdoor experience. We make use of private property, a selection of nature reserves and remote sites. The abseils range from 5 – 150m. We can facilitate a long or short hiking distance to the actual site. Some of our sites are only accessible by 4×4 vehicle, others a short walk from the parking area. Sites can also be accessed by either hiking, via Feratta, chain or a steel/aluminium ladders facility.
This allows you to have multiple abseils at the sites where we offer activities. Our ladders range in length from 10 to 100m. Brave is the only adventure company to offer a mobile ladder activity, with zero environmental impact, we do not bolt into any rocks, but make use natural anchors. Our abseils are extremely safe. We do a safety briefing, prior to every activity and discuss the terrain with you in full. Brave operates on a dual rope system for activities. Even though you will control your own descent, a guide will have a back-up top rope, in-place to offer additional security.
Headed up by Martin van Wyk, who has been providing a full range of brave adventures for the past 20 years from abseiling to trans Africa 4×4 Expeditions and more.
A Via Ferrata (Iron Way) / Chain ladders are stairways anchored on the side of a mountain, more secure than rock climbing with big footing and grips made from steel. It was designed to move troops fast and effectively over the Alps during the world wars. There are currently more than 300 Via Ferrata’s globally and is the fastest growing outdoor sport in Europe. There are about 6 via Ferrata’s in South Africa some of the venues are in North West, Western & Eastern Cape, Garden route, Free state and KwaZulu Natal.
The biggest safety hazard with these fixed ladders is that they are seldom maintained and the properties don’t comply with health and safely protocols. Some properties/sites don’t even have Evacuation or standard operating procures (SOP) in place. Some sites enforce an indemnity waiver where they disclaim any liability what so ever, including negligence.
For this exact reason, Brave Adventures offer a mobile via Feratta steel/aluminium ladder experience, coupled with an abseil. This means that any of our clients can now experience the peace of mind, using a ladder system that is compliant to global safety standards, inspected regularly and have the relevant safety certifications.
This option is for people not wanting to drive the hour there & back, and to have option to be dropped on the summit or at the basecamp, breath taking views, have the option to abseil or descent via the Ferrata only one in Africa, to the base of the Magaliesberg mountain.
Enquiry on multiple options and activities for private and corporate outings.
Brave Adventures has their own activity protocols in place, (which includes evacuation & standard operating procedures) however Brave cannot override existing protocols of sites.
It’s the client/tourists responsibility to ensure that the site they choose for an activity complies with laws of South African health and safety protocols to operate an activity. (this excludes indemnity forms, where most sites, disclaims any responsibility for non-compliance to evacuation protocols, which is illegal)
Confirm the site has a minimum level 3 first-aider, with a valid certification (even higher first-aid qualification in remote sites) during andard operating times.
Ensure the site has an Evacuation procedure, especially on hiking and outdoor activities – YOUR LIFE IS IRREPLACEABLE
Brave will liaise with non-compliant sites chosen by the client/tourist to get their health & safety protocols in place prior to the said activity.
